Thanks Mike. If you are in a position to, I bet you'd have a great time going to see the Arctic. Not so far as Antarctica. Disko Bay, west coast of Greenland, is really memorable, accessible by cruise ship if you are oriented toward them. A calving glacier there. May not be there forever.

I would love to and am due for a getaway. I haven’t really considered Greenland before but will look into it!

Well, there's Iceland too. A distinct benefit to Iceland is that you can fly there from the US. As far as I know, if you're flying, you still have to start from Europe to get to Greenland.

Incredible writing! You fly from Oslo? Your photographs are also sublime. I might’ve missed the year when you visited. I can imagine that the war has made emotions tense of the town this past year?

Thank you Leanne. Yes, flights from Oslo. There's also a flight from Tromso. Not that you'd be up that way, but that's much closer, and I'm under the impression that when something goes wrong, medivac flights and the like arrive from Tromso.

This article came from a trip to see a total solar eclipse there in 2015, so I don't know personally about recent tension. (Would be interesting to go up and see though, wouldn't it?) During my visit I met the publisher of Svalbard's English language newspaper, Mark Sabbatini, who was a great help to me in the editing of my book Out in the Cold, which includes a section on Svalbard. He and his paper are the best resource I know of about what's happening up there today.

Would be incredible! I am racking my brains to try to remember a TV show that included a visit to that place. I just can’t figure it out but this is not the first time I read about this village. It wasn’t in the TV show occupied was it? Are you based in Norway? Anyway I bought your book I’m really excited because it looks like you narrate the Audible version so I’m already very much looking forward to listening!

Don't know of a TV show. My wife and I live in Atlanta. She's a Finn, her family is there and we have a cabin on Lake Saimaa there. We spend time there every summer. Thanks so much for buying the book. I did voiceovers as a career for many years, so narrating the audio version was natural.
