Last night Sean Hannity hosted a ‘debate’ between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
What a campaign season: the second place Republican has the best debate of the entire campaign … against a member of the other party. Yes, he was on home turf with Hannity and repeated softball questions featuring charts that without fail showed FOX’s view of California’s shortcomings. Newsom knew they would be coming and they still bowled him right over.
On the bright side, Newsom leaves Alpharetta, Georgia, site of the ‘debate,’ with a good, solid list of techniques to work on for next time: eliminate the strange Indian head waggle affectation, ditch the permanent false smile, look less like the self-satisfied ‘DeSanctimonious’ figure Trump has branded his opponent.
Dem commenters have derided the inauthentic DeSantis smile and it was on full display - he just can’t make that face do what he wishes it would - and whatever the cadres on his campaign staff do, they still can’t make the lip licking thing stop, but you just pair him against the TV confected, gleaming smile of Newsom and DeSantis’s not-yellow-but-not-bloody-gleaming rows of teeth show him as the hero of the working man, facts be damned.
Newsom, who meant this as a note to Americans should anything happen to President Biden, has done us the service of solidifying our support against him, and behind a real would be candidate from a working person’s state, a Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan) or a Sherrod Brown (Ohio).
Which shows the Democrats’ hopeless situation one year out from the election. The Democrats can make their case and make their case and make their case, but they are just simply not where the people are right now. Let Trump be removed from the race for whatever reason and a Biden Haley race has Biden utterly crushed in a generational tidal wave.
All the Democrats have got - ALL THEY’VE GOT - right now is to contrast Biden to Trump and hope common sense prevails.
